This abstract photographic image is of a dead tree that fascinated me when we were discovering the wonders of Yellowstone National Park. The background is supplied by imposing Orange Mound Spring travertine rock which is created from the flow of hot springs below ground.
The trees that grew in area eventually are overcome by the heat and die from the inside out. This tree looks as though it is bleeding at the exposed knot in the branches. However, at the base of the tree life springs up and finds away to thrive despite the toxic water and relentless heat from below.
Together, all of the natural elements of this blistered tree came together as a intriguing image that causes people at art shows to pause and consider the subject intently.
This image is striking on all media types, especially canvas. The abstract composition and mysterious subject matter generates a lot of visual interest that fits into any decor motif.
